Saving Money on Ikea Deliveries in Amsterdam: Our Experiment

Best Deals on Ikea Deliveries in Amsterdam - A Comparison

Moving to a new home can be a stressful and time-consuming process. That’s why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to do the hard work for you and compare the top 5 IKEA delivery options in Amsterdam. We made an experiment buying the most sold bed, the SLATTUM model, and a matching mattress, the VESTMARKA, to see which company would deliver faster and cheaper from IKEA to the entrance of our apartment building in Amsterdam. Here’s what we found:

Option 1: Official IKEA Delivery

Ikea advertises the following prices: 0-100 kg (maximum 23 kg per package): IKEA Family price €29.99 / Regular price €39.99. However, since our chosen bed and mattress combination is heavier than 23kg (like almost every bed), we will have to pay for a delivery made by two delivery men, which goes for the Regular price of €59.99 or €49.99 for IKEA Family members.

Pros: Official IKEA delivery Cons: Not very cheap, not very fast

Option 2: Same-Day Delivery from Move Holland (moveholland.com)

Move Holland offers an easy-to-use website that provides quotes via WhatsApp chat delivering small items from €25. The cost for delivering our bed and mattress was €45, making it the cheapest option. Arranging the pick-up was also a breeze after selecting the self-pick-up option on the IKEA website. IKEA will send you an invoice with your receipt, and you only have to share this receipt with Move Holland via WhatsApp or email. They will do the pick-up and offer an evening delivery service that promises to deliver between 18 and 22 hours on the same day. Another nice feature is that if you’re already at IKEA and can’t carry the items to your home, they will come to the rescue and meet you in the IKEA parking lot.

Pros: Same-day delivery, the cheapest option, website in English

Cons: Only available in Amsterdam and Amstelveen

Option 3: Courier Service PickThisUp.nl

PickThisUp.nl has multiple delivery options and a user-friendly website that’s available in both English and Dutch. Their cheaper option, “Flexible Delivery,” started at €76 and promises to deliver within 2-5 working days after collection. This could mean delivery could take a bit longer if they don’t pick up the same day. For same-day delivery, the starting price is €106.

Pros: Fast delivery available, available all throughout the Netherlands, website in English and Dutch Cons: Expensive

And there you have it, folks! Our experiment showed us that for a fast and affordable delivery solution in Amsterdam, Move Holland is the clear winner. So, whether you’re an ex-pat settling into a new home or just looking to upgrade your furnishings, this guide will help make the process a breeze. Happy shopping!
